It is announced for the information of the public that the head office of the Medical and Dental Council will be temporarily closed to the general public on Friday, the 26th of April, 2024 for administrative reasons.

HOW TO GET ONTO COUNCIL'S REGISTER

There are different ways to apply for registration with a licence to practise in Ghana.  These will depend upon one’s nationality, country of training and qualification (primary or specialist qualifications). 

Generally, the details required for getting onto the registers include the following:

  1. the name and address of the practitioner
  2. the date or dates of registration
  3. the qualifications held by such persons,
  4. whether they hold a valid licence to practise, and
  5. whether they have a fitness to practise or disciplinary issue.

QUALIFICATION AND PROCEDURE FOR REGISTRATION

It is important that persons seeking to register with the Council first satisfy themselves that they hold qualifications from institutions recognised by Council. They must also ascertain whether the qualifications are registrable with Council. In addition, they must ensure that they understand the registration procedures and must follow the requirements appropriate to the class of register they are seeking to be registered on.

  • Qualification for Registration

A person seeking to register with Council must

  1. hold a primary qualification from an institution recognised by Council,
  2. pass or be exempted from the registration examination, and
  3. satisfy any other registration requirements as determined by the Board.
  • Procedure for registration
  1. Application for registration on any of the registers shall be made to the Registrar using the appropriate form. click here
  2. The applicant must attach the original or certified true copy of the certificate or documents of his or her qualification and either submit in person or by post or electronically.
  3. The applicant must pay the fee payable on registration and satisfy any other conditions as determined by the Board. click here for Council’s fees and charges
  • Non-Citizens

In addition to the requirements for registration as stated above, non-citizens seeking to be registered are required by law to show evidence of

  1. a valid work permit, or
  2. entitlement to work in gainful employment in Ghana, and
  3. intention to permanently practise in Ghana for those seeking to be placed on the permanent register.
