The Minister of Health, Hon. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu on Friday, 3^rd September, 2021 inaugurated the Governing Board of the Medical and Dental Council.

The Board has Prof. P. K Nyame as the Chairman with Hon. Mahama Asei Seini, Dr. Divine N. Banyubala, Dr. Ernest Yorke, Dr. Constance Addo-Yobo, Ms. Rebecca Dede Bantey, Mrs. Stella Otema Badu, Prof. Margaret Lartey, H. E. Ambassador Cecilia Gyan Amoah and Mr. Samuel Adjapong as members.

The Minister in his speech indicated that the COVID-19 situation had delayed the reconstitution of the board. The Minister said the MDC Board was the second to be inaugurated in the sector so far.

“I have submitted documentation for 19 more boards to be formed. It is left with five more documentation to be submitted for approval” he said. The Minister charged the Board members to continue the good work of its predecessors to build enviable medical training and practice standards.

Prof. P. K. Nyame, Chairman of the Board thanked the President for the opportunity to serve Ghana. He said “We have a youthful executive leadership in the Council, with the opportunity for innovation and transformation. They will be buoyed up by other not-so-young members, who bring along a bank of institutional memory, with lifetime working experience”.

“Medical Regulatory Bodies in developing countries face many challenges in their quest to sustain high standards in education and training, and maintain professional discipline. However, measures already taken, reforms initiated, and a determination on the part of the Board to be proactive, should give us the assurance that the profession will be appropriately guided, and the public will be adequately protected” he said.

The Board subsequently held an emergency meeting late into the night to approve results of Registration and Licentiate examination that had been outstanding pending the constitution of the Board.
