Council noted the need for more institutions to be accredited for housemanship training. This is to meet the need of the expected increase in house officers as a result of the two year housemanship training.
With the exception of St. Dominc's Hospital, Akwatia and Presbyterian Hospital, Agogo, most of the accredited institutions are located in large cities. 85-90% of house officers are in the two teaching hospitals. A number of institutions were, therefore, identified, inspected and accredited to meet the need.
10 Institutions were inspected and 9 accredited for housemanship training with an average number of two accredited disciplines per institution.
The total number of accredited institutions for housemanship training by September 2005 was 18 with an average of 3 accredited disciplines per institution.
